Sheltered by the Malvern Hills from the west wind, Great Malvern is a beautiful Victorian spa town that has an abundance of natural beauty and history. Perhaps it was the pure water of the Malvern Hills springs that first attracted the iron-age builders of The British Camp and then, hundreds of years later, the founders of Malvern's two medieval priories. Certainly it was those waters that made Malvern a 19th century spa, with the elegance to become a place of culture, attracting people like Sir Edward Elgar and George Bernard Shaw.
Two places that capture Malvern's beauty and history are Great Malvern Priory and St Ann's Well. At Malvern's centre is Great Malvern Priory, a cathedral- sized wonder of English medieval architecture with many treasures to reveal; massive Norman pillars, a huge and famous East window and interior manufactured by monks. St Ann's Well is a natural spring hidden half-way up the Malvern Hills which offers a peaceful break for many of the hill walkers.
The town is home to Malvern Theatres, a wonderful facility with two theatres for live performances and a cinema. Morgan Cars have been manufactured in Malvern for one hundred years and a tour of the factory is an opportunity to see old style craftsmanship being used to produce a modern day performance sports car. |
